The South Hampton Roads Bar Association honored a few of its members in June with our first annual bar section awards. The awards were presented by Doris H. Causey, President Elect of the Virginia State Bar.

Member of the Year: Kendra Johnson, Esq.
This section is exclusively for members of the SHRBA who are also members of the judiciary. The section holds an annual forum for judges to discuss issues and provide a professional ear about those things, which affect them.
Judge Tasha Scott of the Norfolk General District Court serves as the chair of this SHRBA section.
This section is for members of the SHRBA who are engaged in the practice of law for city, state, and local government.
Leonard Brown, Esq. of the Chesapeake City Attorney's Office leads this bar section.
This section is for members of the SHRBA who are engaged primarily in private practice, many of whom work as solo practitioners.
Bruce Sams, Esq. of The Law Office of Bruce C. Sams is the chair of this section.
This section is for members of the SHRBA who are under the age of 35 or who have been practicing law for 3 years or less. Young lawyers can join the Young Lawyers section and one additional section.
Kendra Johnson, Esq. of The Cooper Law Firm serves as the chair of the Young Lawyers section.
This section is for SHRBA members who are pursuing law degrees at the various law schools in Hampton Roads. Law students are associate members of the SHRBA. This section is a great way for students to start the networking process as well as to seek mentors in different areas of law.
